DementiaWho!
Caring for someone with dementia is a journey. When you first get on board, you know absolutely nothing. You get directed to various websites, organisations and if you’re lucky will have someone in your corner who can help.
But if you’re like me, you’re left alone to get on with it. You learn as you go.
So I’m sharing our journey with you – what we learn and practical advice on what works in the hope it helps someone else. I hope you’ll join us because being a dementia caregiver is tough.
I thought I could handle anything, little did I know. Being a carer is a different ball game. It started with a fight.

We Care Campaign
We’re a unique, award winning grassroots campaign of unpaid carers and those who support us.
We’re a team of volunteers. We fit our campaigning around our caring roles, our families, and our jobs. It’s real life, it’s messy and there’s never enough time. We’re driven to succeed because carers, all carers deserve so much better.
We’re building a community of networked carer campaigners across the UK. Our community campaigns on issues that are important to us.
We’re all about amplifying carer voices to decision makers, organisations, society, and each other.

National Unpaid Carers Union and Forum
The founder of the NUCUF, Leo left full time employment to become a Full time carer in January 2024 to his mother-in-law.
"shortly after making my claim for carers allowance, I became aware of over 130,000 cases of carers being convicted in court of fraud, due to a fault in communication between carers and the Department for Work and Pensions. I was shocked to see such action being taken against carers who provide free care to either friends or loved ones, and to the benefit of the economy and the NHS. Carers are expected to survive on a benefit that frankly, is an insult to over 5.9 million vulnerable people"
